For those not knowing what gear to get next, or wondering if the current gear you have can be improved in a way, check this app out:

Uses armory to get current gear and can use either wowhead or armory to find upgrades.
Shows stats about your char etc.
Think its a decent utility.
Another utility, but more online:

replace <charactername> with your name and it will display decent information about you char.
There is even a sandbox where you can change gear etc. It tells you what stats you will loose and gain for each gear item.
Like Nerual always said, check what u want from a boss before a raid, will speed the looting process up
